Orad and STATS provide France’s Canal+ with Unique Football Enhancements

Northbrook, IL and Kfar Saba, Israel – September, 2009 – Orad, a world leading provider of real-time broadcasting graphic solutions, and STATS, the world's leading sports technology, data and content company, have joined forces to provide France’s Canal+ with a captivating, real time, player tracking solution to measure and analyze game action for revealing new on-air graphics.

The integrated solution enables Canal+ to automatically track the exact position of each player during the game and visualize the collected data in real time. The data, which is collected by STATS’ SportVU system, is purged in real time by Orad’s 3DPlay, which visualizes the data and takes it to air.

One of the unique features of the joint integration is the “heat map” displaying where the footballer spent most of his time on the field. The heat maps, as well as other statistical information such as ball possession and distance covered, provide viewers with visual references that create a better understanding of the game and its strategy.

The SportVU system collects positioning data of the ball and participants (players and referees) within the playing field in real time – including measurement of each pass, shot on goal and goalie save. All aspects of the data collection process are completely non-intrusive to game action, with output generated in just a single frame delay from real-time.

SportVU employs proprietary software to analyze the accumulated data streams and compile meaningful information and insights with incredible precision. The result is a powerful lineup of insightful performance data highlighting ball possession, speed profiles, accumulated distances, fitness graphs and coverage maps, all delivered in real time.

Canal+ also benefits from Orad’s TrackVision football enhancement solution to display offside lines, 9 meter distance indicators, distance to goal measurements and speed of the ball during their weekend sport broadcasts.
